Do you have a 2009-2012 model year BMW diesel showing a “Service Engine Soon” light on the display?
According to BMW, the light may or may not be accurate and at any rate, the company is issuing service recall for 24,340 diesels that may not meet U.S. and California emission control rules.
The majority of potentially faulty vehicles are 3-series models – about 21,600 of them, and the remainder is comprised of 2,740 X5 XDrive and X6 XDrive 50i vehicles from the 2011 and 2012 models years.
According to Automotive News, a BMW spokesman said the recalls are scheduled for May 9, and the vehicles were manufactured in Spartanburg, S.C., and in Germany.
The emission control hardware in question includes the SCR catalyst, the EGR valve and the DEF mixer which may overstate mileage and cause an exceeding of emissions standards.
Under the recall, one or more of the components will be replaced, and BMW will reprogram the engine control computer as well.
