Nissan Americas will reportedly update the 2013 Leaf with optional leather, and other improvements to the car which is to be unveiled in December when its production begins in Smyrna, Tenn.
According to the Detroit News, Mark Perry, Nissan's director of product and advanced planning said use of animal hides had originally been set aside to align with perceived sensibilities held by some in the green movement. The company has now decided it will off leather as an option in the Leaf’s interior. Perry also said, "people want a dark interior, so we're to give them a dark interior, too."
On the hardware side of things, the 2013 Leaf will also get an upgraded, less energy-consuming heater, one that will not have such a huge impact on the Leaf's range in cold weather.
"You may not see much change on the EPA rating [of 73 miles], but in cold-weather conditions you may see 20 to 25 miles of improvements," Perry said.
