The first Sports Cars are considered to be (though the term would not be coined until after World War One) the 3 litre made in 1910 Vauxhall 20 hp (15 kW) and 27/80PS Austro-Daimler (designed by Ferdinand Porsche).

EV Cup, the world's first racing series dedicated solely to zero-emissions vehicles, was initially scheduled to kick off in August with an inaugural race in the UK. That tentative schedule was quickly altered and the Cup's first two preliminary races were pushing back to late 2011. Speaking about that delay, Sylvian Fillippi, managing director of EV Cup, stated:

The requirements for safety aspects and the delivery schedule for race cars was not going to allow sufficient time for testing.

Now there's word of one more delay that effectively cancels the EV Cup's entire 2011 season: We read on EV Cup's Facebook page:

Due to delays in the final production of our electric cars that were to be used in our race series, it is with great regret that we are left with no choice but to abandon plans for the 2011 EV Cup race series. We had races planned at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca on November 26 and Auto Club Speedway, Los Angeles on December 17.

Unless additional delays surface, look for the electrified racing series to hold its inaugural race at some point in 2012.
