There's now word that the Daimler AG and Renault- Nissan tie-up, a collaborative deal that was made official back in April of 2010, is set to expand to include a compact Infiniti model that will feature a platform developed by Mercedes-Benz as well as a pair of electric vehicles. These are all slated to launch in 2014.
At the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, Renault-Nissan chief executive officer Carlos Ghosn told reporters that Mercedes and Infiniti would swap engines and that Nissan's luxury automaker would utilize a Mercedes platform for its set-to-debut-in-2014 compact.
Additionally, Ghosn stated that the two projects that formed the original basis for the strategic agreement – a common platform for Smart's future vehicle and the Renault Twingo; and an electric vehicle deal that supposedly involves two subcompacts – are on schedule. This means that we should expect the 2014 arrival of a pair of electric vehicles, with one a battery-powered Twingo and the other an undisclosed electric Smart.
