Tesla Model S deliveries have unofficially started last weekend.

These first unofficial deliveries started right after the certification and homologation by all relevant U.S. government agencies.

The very first Model S went to none other than Tesla board member Steve Jurvetson, who secured the “TSLA S1” California license plate for it.

Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk is reportedly driving production car number 002 around Los Angeles as well.

Both these early production cars are top of the line “Signature Series” cars equipped with the largest 85-kilowatt-hour battery pack. The range with this battery pack should be up to 320 miles, depending on other options chosen and how often they are used.

According to a story published in July 2010 in the San Jose Mercury-News, Jurvetson beat Musk to the punch during a board meeting to gain the first spot on the Model S reservation list.

Tesla is currently gearing up for the first official customer deliveries to start on June 22^nd.

George Blankenship, Vice President, Worldwide Sales and Ownership Experience, also announced yesterday that Tesla will launch on June 23^rd and 24^th the Get Amped Model S Tour at the Tesla Factory in Fremont, California. The tour aims to offer 5,000 test drives in 45 days across the U.S. and Canada.
