Yesterday, the Nissan Canada Foundation helped the Toronto Challenge kick off its annual fundraiser by providing an ideal pace car for walkers and runners alike: a zero-emission Leaf.

The Toronto Challenge celebrated over 20 years of fundraising for community organizations working to improve the quality of life for seniors.

“We’re proud of our long-standing partnership with the Toronto Challenge and its continued support for seniors programs in our community,” said Allen Childs, president of Nissan Canada. “With no tailpipe and no emissions, the Nissan Leaf is the perfect pace-setter for the event and we’re excited for participants to have the opportunity to see the car up close.”

Over 2,000 Toronto Challenge participants, led by the zero-emission Nissan Leaf, enjoyed a 5k run or walk through downtown Toronto. The Toronto Challenge is the largest annual fundraiser for seniors’ programs across Toronto and this year’s diverse group of participants ranged from age one to 97. Organizers of this year’s race estimate that over $500,000 was raised for local non-profit organizations.
